Parker and his parents, Kelley and Chris are pretty special to me. They were one of the first photo gigs I got after moving to Arizona. Not knowing anyone in this state, I was overjoyed to meet this family for the first time, one year ago! One of my favorite things in the world is to watch families I’ve photographed, grow! So it was more than a treat to be there for his One Year photo session 🙂
Parker was not as excited to see me as I was him. Like most 1 year olds, he needed a little time to warm up to me. He eventually realized how hilarious I am, and we got along splendidly 🙂
The best thing about smash cakes for 1 year olds is their complete confusion on what is actually happening. “So, if I put my foot in this cake, we’re good?”, is the facial expression I imagine I’m seeing most times.
I believe the cake smash was a success! Not only that, Parker managed to stay pretty clean, so we kept on taking pics 🙂
The most amazing thing about photographing babies, and even young children – is that you can’t really tell them what to do or how to pose. They’re mere suggestions, so when you capture a really raw and awesome moment, it literally is JUST that. Not something you even asked them to do. Which is why this photo below melts my heart. I had basically decided we were done with our session, when I saw Kelley holding Parker and he was nose diving/crazy kissing her… yea not a moment I want to miss, and I’m so glad I didn’t!
